Gospel of the Kingdom
Gospel of the Kingdom, studying the teachings of Jesus Christ, one will begin to notice his emphasis on words like “king” and “kingdom.” Without considering their context, these terms appear extravagant and possibly construed to mean riches, wealth or a monarchy. However, it’s well known that Jesus himself never subscribed to a life other than making do with what his Father had provided him; therefore, what do these terms mean to Christ’s life and teachings? As Christ was building his ministry, he focused on the message of a Kingdom of God, which was bestowed to him personally by God himself; essentially, “kingdom” is another term for nation or government, therefore, Christ is simply talking about the nation of God. This term is also associated with the concept of “good news”, which he brought to those he met and taught along the way.
The sincere and special approach that Christ took in delivering his message about the Kingdom of God is revealed in
Luke 8:1, “Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching (Gospel of the Kingdom) and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him.”
The Kingdom of God was central to Christ’s teachings, and he further emphasized the critical importance of being accepted into that Kingdom upon one’s hearing of the message (Gospel of the Kingdom). Since acceptance into the Kingdom of God was paramount to Christ’s Mission, then likely one would be inspired to carefully follow the son of God’s teachings to truly understand the monumental significance of that kingdom, and the transformation it brings to one’s life.
Christ’s Gospel of the Kingdom is integral to the foundation of Christianity, there has always been a growing concern about whether it’s been truly communicated by today’s church, or at all for that matter. This is a definite point of concern for current theologians, church leaders and practicing Christians who are deeply invested into the history and original teachings of Christ. While it’s unmistakably clear that Christians believe and accept Jesus Christ as their saviour, belief and acceptance doesn’t necessarily translate into obeying his teachings and entering the Kingdom of God. Especially when there’s an absence of his Gospel of the Kingdom in daily practice, one can’t help but contemplate whether or not today’s Christianity is the truest reflection of Christ’s mission and message.
Gospel of the Kingdom
The central theme of Christ’s Gospel of the Kingdom is the spreading of “good news.” This is confirmed through Mark’s account of when “Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God”, and further insight is provided from the passage noted earlier by Luke, who spoke of Christ’s “glad tidings.” The phrase, “glad tidings”, literally translates into the “gospel of good news”, thus providing further understanding of Christ’s central focus of his mission. With a total of 53 references to the Gospel of the Kingdom found in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Christ’s focus is crystal clear and serves as a reminder of Christianity’s foundational message. Since Jesus Christ serves as the messenger of God, and his teachings center around the Gospel of the Kingdom, it’s fair to say this Gospel must remain in-tact and taught in today’s modern Christianity.
Having established the Gospel of the Kingdom as his central theme, Christ called upon others to help spread the message of “good news” and this gospel from village to city. As one delves deeper into the Gospel of the Kingdom and Christ’s request for participation, it’s even clearer that the purpose of Christianity is to serve the son of God, and his father, in this exact manner. Christ reminded his followers, and educated those he met, that the main objective in their faith was to seek the Kingdom of God first. In order to gain entry one must teach the word of God and spread the good news (Gospel of the Kingdom), rather than breaking god’s law while professing belief.
