Food for thought

Food for thought: A recent article in The Australian newspaper reported that a new study from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in the U.S has found that ‘religiousness and overeating are linked.’
Hmm……..interesting…….
Apparently study participants who reported attending church weekly, or more frequently were almost twice as likely to be obese than those who went rarely or never! Go figure!
The researchers weren’t entirely sure why this would be so, but suggested that it may have something to do with ‘the church’s pot luck eating culture, an emphasis on marriage, which can lead to weight gain, and using food as a reward for good deeds.’
Well I’m not convinced about any of those suggestions, but the following information piqued my interest. A member of the Philadelphia Atheist Meet-up Group reportedly suggested that ‘religious believers might be more concerned with the afterlife than with their actual life.’
Perhaps this is a valid point.
